Just spied some new (to me) Mociun diamond & turquoise earrings and matching ring at Magpie & Rye. I love how they are mismatched and I really love the lighter shade of the turquoise. Want. Now. Please.
vali myers
I just did a book swap with my lovely reading buddy, Julie. She loaned me her copy of Just Kids by Patti Smith which I’m reading now. In the book, Patti Smith mentions stumbling across a battered copy of Love on the Left Bank by Ed van der Elsken, “with grainy black -and- white shots of Paris nightlife in the late fifties. The photographs of the beautiful Vali Myers, with her...
daydreamers
Eco-friendly designer and Toronto native, Erin Kleinberg, got her start at W Magazine before launching her first line in 2008. The lookbook for her latest Spring 2011 Collection (featuring Chanel muse and musician, Irina Lazareanu) has me loving that lately it’s actually warm enough in SF to wear these beauties.
Propped on two hands in somewhat compromising outdoor settings, surrounded by the wilderness that he loved, artist Robert Kinmont photographed himself in 1969 in the series 8 Natural Handstands.
ace & jig s/s 2011
After how pleased I was with both the material and craftsmanship of Ace & Jig’s premier collection this past Fall—in addition to the beautiful cuts and styles—I’m obviously looking forward to Cary and Jenna’s designs for the Spring and Summer. How good is that red/pink combo? And lord knows, these days everybody loves a crop top.
So much striped goodness...
christopher gray
Aweome. Frank Lloyd Wright series by Christopher Gray.
The artist Heather Benning transformed this farmhouse into this amazing giant dollhouse with a plexiglass back.
proenza schouler pre-fall 2011
THE PRINTS! Amazing.
This book has been on my bookshelf for years, I keep going back to it and keep being reminded of how insanely awesome it is….it just may be my favorite book.
let's colour project
A project like this one makes me happy. Let’s Colour Project was launched by paint company Dulux Valentine to paint rather dull public places in bright and vivid colors. They have been working with local communities from various cities (Rio, London, Jodhpur, Marseille, Paris and soon Istanbul) to paint their streets, schools and squares. The result in this video is really amazing.
i think christmas needs a do-over
Because, omigod I want this chair. Really badly.
the one in green
Having unofficially referred to myself for years as “theoneingreen” in all things requiring a username, from flickr to ebay to etsy to even a short-lived twitter account, I’m happy that I’m at last having my fashion hay day (and FINALLY in non-olive form!).
frances trombly
I would have a better chance of hanging on to receipts (and thus avoiding confrontations with store managers) if they were hand-embroidered. Look a little more closely:
Frances Trombly uses trompe-l’oeil effects in her work to recreate mundane objects, making labor-intensive pieces through weaving, embroidery, cross stitch, and crochet…This contrast confronts the viewer, asking questions...
Triangle shelf by J1studio…would be perfect for my sewing nook.
Since we’re on the subject of Magpie & Rye, I thought I’d introduce those of you not living in San Francisco to the wonderful Prairie Collective. Along with Studio Choo and Cloak & Cabinet Society, Magpie & Rye form what they describe as “a trio of small businesses sharing a space and aesthetic in San Francisco’s Western Addition. Here, you will find fresh...
I have so many bags, soooo many bags. But then this beauty came along, what I’m now mentally referring to as, ‘theillusiveperfectbag‘ by Me and Arrow - spotted (of course) at Magpie and Rye in the Western Addition. I mean I already have that Pendleton hat and they just look SO good together! Is it socially acceptable to carry, say, four purses at a...
casa de calder
I did it! I found our dream house!! Too bad sculptor/artist Alexander Calder already lives in it.
Images from the book Calder at Home.
One of my favorite designers is Toronto based Sara Cwynar. Below is her newsprint book, Simulated Landscapes.
Peekaboo Forest is a new app for you iPhone or Android designed by Night & Day Studios. Using real animal sounds and interactive technology, they created a narrative to bring the storybook quality of illustrator Charley Harper to your personal screen.
The Peekaboo Forest recreates the imaginative mid-century modern style of Harper’s images. Before studying at the Art Academy of...
dream bike
Gah….I’m swooning!
lena wolff
Originally from Los Angeles, Lena Wolff moved to the Bay Area several years ago to study printmaking at San Francisco University. Now residing in Berkeley, she draws inpiration from traditional folk art to create mixed media pieces that I adore! (this last one is actually a large mural from Clarion Alley…luckily, just down the street from us)
ferraz house
Simply called the ‘Ferraz House’ in São Paolo, Brazil. One concrete ceiling, and one… is that rattan?! Woah. And the library…gah, I die….
